The North Seventh Street Historic Residential District was an integral part of Grand Junction's original plans - it was, indeed, the Heart of the City.

Grand Junction was incorporated in 1882. The town’s population in 1885 was 378, according to a special Colorado State Census, but other sources claimed it was over 800.

By 1970, the area's population was about 30,000; the oil shale boom in the early 90's boosted it to more than 60,000. Today, the area is home to more than 140,000 residents.
