This home was built in 1923 for Dr. Jess Urban Sickenberger. Dr. Sickenberger was a well respected doctor. This home was owned by his wife Etta until she sold in 2003. This home has maintained the original exterior. With the exception of a kitchen remodel in 2003, the interior in unchanged and has maintained its refined beauty.
Joseph M. Sampliner, a one-time mayor of Grand Junction, had this home built in 1895. Joseph and his cousin Bert were owners of Sampliner’s clothing store, where the Rockslide is now. In 1898 he brought his bride, Jennie Kauffman, to live in the home. The home was remodeled into the Tudor style in the 1940s by Dr. Alf Thurston and his wife Minnie.
This home was built in 1895 by Albert “Bert” Sampliner, cousin of Joseph. He married Cora Maes Stayer of Ouray and brought his new bride to this home. Harry Burnett, owner of the St. Regis, was also an owner of this home. The exterior and interior have undergone very little change.
Orloff H. and Pearl Shores Ellison built this home in 1924. Ellison owned Ellison Lumber Company and when he built this home he used only the finest lumber to construct this home. Floors, doors, French doors, window sashes and frames were all golden oak.
This home was built in 1909 for Edward and Elizabeth Brunner, a cigar manufacturer. The exterior of the house remains unchanged.
The First Church of Christ, Scientist was built in 1929 and dedicated on Oct. 8, 1944. The exterior and interior of the church are virtually unchanged.
Henry Barkuloo, a lumberman, built this home in 1912. In 1915 Claud D. and Gertrude Smith purchased the home. Mr. Smith owned the C.D. Drug Co. The interior and exterior remain virtually are unchanged.
